Relighting premium stops from January 1, 2027
27 March 2026 What does this mean for your project?
The Flemish Government has decided to stop the relighting premium for non-residential buildings as of January 1, 2027. This means that relighting projects with an invoice date from that date will no longer be eligible for support. For companies with planned or ongoing projects, proper timing today is more important than ever.
What does the relighting grant entail?
The relighting grant is a support measure for users of non-residential buildings connected to Fluvius's electricity distribution network. Companies could invest in energy-efficient indoor lighting through this grant, such as LED relighting projects that reduce energy consumption and operational costs.
The procedure is simple: first, the energy-saving intervention is carried out, after which the grant can be applied for. For many organizations, this provided an additional incentive to modernize their lighting more quickly.
What changes from January 1, 2027?
From January 1, 2027, the relighting premium will be completely abolished. Specifically, this means that:
- relighting projects with an invoice date from January 1, 2027 will no longer be eligible;
- the premium application must also be submitted before this date.
This decision is part of broader budget measures in which various premiums for non-residential buildings will be eliminated.
For companies, this means that projects still wishing to benefit from financial support must be fully completed administratively by the end of 2026 at the latest.
Extra attention for ongoing projects
In practice, we see at Eleantis that relighting projects are rarely completed quickly.
They often start with a lighting study, followed by quotations, investment decisions, engineering, and material orders. As a result, there can be a significant time gap between preparation and invoicing.
That is precisely why it is crucial to evaluate existing files in a timely manner and adjust the planning where necessary. A project that is technically ready but administratively handled too late can still miss out on the subsidy.
Note: invoice AND application BEFORE 2027
An important point to note is that not only the invoice date matters. The grant application must also be submitted effectively before January 1, 2027.
This specifically means:
- invoicing must be done before 2027;
- the customer must also submit the grant application on time;
- extra attention is needed for the year-end period, when administrative processing times are often longer.
Good preparation, clear communication, and correct follow-up are therefore essential.
Deviation from the usual application deadline
It is striking that this regulation differs from the normal grant procedure. Within the current grant system, invoices are generally allowed to be up to two years old at the time of application. The fact that this principle is not applied here creates additional points of attention within ongoing processes.
The sector is therefore closely monitoring this development, and further clarification is expected from the relevant authorities. As soon as more clarity becomes available, we will of course share the relevant updates with our customers.
Eleantis helps you plan ahead
The abolition of the relighting grant does not mean that energy-efficient lighting becomes less attractive; on the contrary. Modern lighting remains a quick and profitable investment thanks to lower energy costs, improved working conditions, and higher efficiency.
At Eleantis, we support companies in the execution of their relighting project.
